For many “boat games,” sailing boils down to pressing a button to accelerate. VelejAÍ is different: it’s a sailing simulator in 3D with realistic physics. The sail must be at the right angle to the wind; if it flaps, the boat loses speed. The hull heels in gusts, the rudder responds to speed, and the course depends on your heading relative to the wind.
The map is based on actual nautical charts from the Guaíba River, in Porto Alegre — but anyone, from anywhere, can sail on it. And since it’s 3D in the browser (WebGL), runs on mobile devices with touch controls and on computers, with no download required.
