The biggest obstacle to learn to sail It’s the time spent on the water: it depends on the boat, the weather, and availability. A simulator removes that barrier—you can repeat maneuvers as much as you like and understand, through hands-on experience, what each adjustment does. In VelejAÍ, the sail needs to be at the right angle to the wind: if you trim it too tight on a close-hauled tack, it flaps and the boat stops; if you ease it at the right moment, it takes off.
You don't need to memorize anything before you start. Get in the water, work the tiller and the sheets, and feel the hull heel in the gusts and the apparent wind shift as you pick up speed. Once you get the hang of it, just round a buoy and cross the finish line—on your own or in a race against your friends.
